David Letterman is under fire for crude jokes about Palin’s teenage daughter.

Sarah Palin isn’t taking David Letterman’s ratings bait.

“The Palins have no intention of providing a rating’s boost for David Letterman by appearing on his show,” the Alaska governor’s rep said in a statement to FOXNews.com. “Plus, it would be wise to keep Willow away from David Letterman.”

The response came after the late-night talk-show host invited the governor to appear on “The Late Show” after stopping short of apologizing for “jokes” he had made about her and her family the night before, including one that referred to her daughter being “knocked up” by New York Yankees baseball star Alex Rodriguez.

“We were, as we often do, making jokes about people in the news and we made some jokes about Sarah Palin and her daughter, the 18-year-old girl, who is — her name is Bristol, that’s right, and so, then, now they’re upset with me,” Letterman said. “These are not jokes made about her 14-year-old daughter. I would never, never make jokes about raping or having sex of any description with a 14-year-old girl. I mean, look at my record. It has never happened. I don’t think it’s funny. I would never think it was funny. I wouldn’t put it in a joke…”

//

“… Gov. Palin, if you’re watching, I would like you to consider coming to New York City — even Todd — as my guests, or leave Todd at home. I’d love to have you on the show. It’d be exciting. All right, so there, I hope I’ve cleared part of this up. Am I guilty of poor taste? Yes. Did I suggest that it was okay for her 14-year-old daughter to be having promiscuous sex? No.”

Letterman came under fire for his Tuesday night monologue in which he noted that the 2008 Republican vice presidential candidate attended a Yankees game during a trip to New York City, where she was honored by a special needs group. Letterman referred to Palin as having the style of a “slutty flight attendant.”

He then took a shot at Palin’s daughter, saying, “during the seventh inning, her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez.”

The backlash was almost immediate, with Palin’s supporters denouncing the CBS host for making jokes that many said were sexist and for what they called an unfair attack on the governor and her family.

“I think that calling the former vice presidential candidate a slut or saying that her daughter was knocked up by Alex Rodriguez, I think everyone can agree that’s over the line,” Washington Examiner correspondent Byron York told FOX News’ Greta Von Susteren.

In a statement to FOXNews.com, Palin accused Letterman of making “sexually perverted” and “inappropriate” comments that she doubted he would “ever dare make” about anyone else’s daughter.

CNN) — A 51-year-old man was in a Kansas jail Monday, charged with first-degree murder in the killing of a physician whose women’s clinic frequently took center stage in the debate over abortion, authorities said.

Dr. George Tiller was one of the few U.S. physicians who performed late-term abortions.

Dr. George Tiller was shot and killed while serving as an usher at his Wichita, Kansas, church Sunday morning, according to police. Tiller was one of the few U.S. physicians who still performed late-term abortions and had survived a 1993 shooting outside his clinic.

Scott Roeder from the Kansas City, Kansas, area is being held without bond in the Sedgwick County Adult Detention Facility, according to the sheriff’s office Web site. He is also charged with two counts of aggravated assault.

“This is a tragedy for the Tiller family. We feel so badly about that,” Clarence Roeder, Scott’s uncle, said in a statement provided to CNN affiliate KMBC. “That Scott would murder the doctor in the Lutheran Church. We are also Lutherans, and it adds a double touch of sadness and irony.”

Roeder is expected to appear in court early this week, law enforcement officials said.

The attack drew condemnation from Tiller supporters, from some of those who tried to shut down his practice and from President Obama, who had urged Americans to seek “common ground” on the divisive issue just two weeks ago.

“However profound our differences as Americans over difficult issues such as abortion, they cannot be resolved by heinous acts of violence,” Obama said in a statement issued by the White House.

The shooting prompted U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to direct federal marshals to “offer protection to other appropriate people and facilities around the nation,” according to a statement from the Department of Justice. Watch panel discuss ramifications of slaying Video

Courier-Journal proves my point

The Courier-Journal like always, rejected and refused to print my pro-Christian letter. Unlike the pro-gay marriage writers who write un-biblical lies based on everything but facts; they seem to have no issue printing their lies.

This is about the 20th time this year one of my letters have been rejected. Pam Platt, of the Courier-Journal, is a feminist left-wing Jesus hater. That is a fact. This can be easily seen in their pro-abortion, pro-gay right and anti-Christian marriage. I don’t blame the bad economy on people canceling their subscriptions. People who have morals and values have much better things to read than Pam Platt and the CJ’s lies.

Daniel Hauser may have left the country

SLEEPY EYE, Minnesota (CNN) — The father of a 13-year-old boy whose family is refusing treatment for his cancer said Wednesday he believes his son and his wife have left the country.

Doctors say Daniel Hauser's lymphoma responded well to a first round of chemotherapy in February.

“I will say this: I have left a call to where I think they could possibly be,” Anthony Hauser said from his home in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, about 85 miles southwest of Minneapolis.

Asked whether he believes that they have gone to Canada, he said, “I’m not saying it’s Canada. You know, that isn’t where I left my call.”

He made his comments a day after a Minnesota judge issued an arrest warrant for his wife, Colleen, who failed to appear with the boy at a court hearing. A judge scheduled the hearing to review an X-ray ordered by the court to assess whether Daniel Hauser’s Hodgkin’s lymphoma was worsening.

A doctor testified at the hearing that the X-ray showed “significant worsening.”

In a news release, the Brown County Sheriff’s Office said the father had been “cooperative” in helping them find his son but added, “the investigators cannot speculate on the sincerity of the information that Anthony Hauser has provided.”

The sheriff’s office has been in touch with the FBI, and the boy has been entered in the Missing and Exploited Children network, it said.

Anthony Hauser testified at the hearing that he last saw his wife at the family’s farm on Monday night, when she told him she was going to leave “for a time.”

He later said he would like his wife and son to return.

“I’d like to tell them, you know, ‘Come back and be safe and be a family again,’ ” he said. “That’s what I’d like to tell them.” Video Watch father urge the pair to come back »

District Judge John R. Rodenberg of Brown County, Minnesota, said the boy’s “best interests” require him to receive medical care. His family opposes the proposed course of treatment, which includes chemotherapy.

“It is imperative that Daniel receive the attention of an oncologist as soon as possible,” the judge wrote.

During Tuesday’s hearing, Dr. James Joyce testified that he had seen the boy and his mother on Monday at his office. He said that the boy had “an enlarged lymph node” near his right clavicle and that the X-ray showed “significant worsening” of a mass in his chest.

In addition, the boy complained of “extreme pain” at the site where a port had been inserted to deliver an initial round of chemotherapy. The pain was “most likely caused by the tumor or mass pressing on the port,” testified Joyce, who called the X-ray “fairly dramatic” evidence that the cancer was worsening. Rodenberg ordered custody of the boy transferred to Brown County Family Services and issued a contempt

Play with women – you can’t beat men, get over it

CLIFTON, N.J. – Six years since gaining national attention as a 13-year-old golfing phenomenon, Michelle Wie still seeks that first win on the LPGA Tour and dreams of beating the boys on that other pro golf circuit.

A trip to Augusta also would be nice.

Wie raised a couple of eyebrows at a pre-tournament news conference for the LPGA Sybase Classic on Wednesday, when the 19-year-old matter-of-factly said that she hopes to win a PGA Tour tournament and play in the Masters.

Granted the questions were posed to the player who was anointed the next great female golfer while still in middle school, but she didn’t back off or even couch her answers by saying that would be something she would think about when she wins a couple of times against the best women.

Wie has not won a tournament since the 2003 USGA Women’s Public Links.

“You know, like I always say, dream high and stuff, set your goals up high, and I think it’s definitely — I’m not saying it’s an easy goal to achieve,” Wie said when asked about winning a men’s tournament. “I’m not going to be like, ‘Oh, I’m going to go out and win a men’s event.’ It’s not like that, but it’s one of those long-term goals where I see myself getting to. I see myself getting there, and it’s one of those goals that really motivates me and pushes me to be a stronger player, a better player.”

Wie captured plenty of attention in 2006 when she made it to the final round of qualifying for the U.S. Open. Her threesome at Canoe Brook in nearby Summit was mobbed and she excited the throng in the morning 18 with a chip-in for birdie on her final hole. She struggled in the afternoon and failed to make the men’s Open field.

“It was a lot of fun,” Wie said. “The U.S. Open means a lot to me, so just being able to do that, I gained a lot of experience, and it was a really nice golf course. I just remember it being a really long day, but it was definitely a fun experience.”

Unlike years past when Wie seemingly was a free agent contracting to any golf event, she is happy to be a member of the LPGA Tour. She earned her playing privileges at the qualifying school last year and has earned $171,829 in five events this year. Her best finish was second at the SBS Open in her native Hawaii in her first start.

After taking the next three events off, Wie has tied for 57th, tied for 67th, tied for 10th and tied for 15th last week at the Michelob Ultra Open in Virginia.

Officially an LPGA rookie even though she has played in 54 events in her career, Wie said her game is improving.

Winning is another topic.

“I’m going to try to keep playing the best I can,” Wie said. “Hopefully I am very close to a win. I feel like it’s going to come. I have faith.”

Wie, ranked No. 22 on the money earnings list, this week faces a field at Upper Montclair Country Club that includes three-time defending champion Lorena Ochoa and 27 of the top 30 players on tour.

KFC runs out of Grilled Chicken

IT’S ALL

It all began when Oprah said on her TV show, which has an audience of about seven million viewers, that viewers could download a voucher for a free meal at KFC from her website. The Colonel Sanders franchise was promoting its new product line, Kentucky Grilled Chicken, and Oprah, the doyen of diets and a woman famed for promoting the ethical treatment of animals, was helping.

With two pieces of chicken, and mashed potatoes and coleslaw on the side, it was a bargain that America could not resist. Within minutes, “Oprah Winfrey KFC” was the fifth most popular search on the internet. By the weekend, franchises were running out of food as free-loaders flocked to Oprah’s website. Stores were having to close up and hungry diners, coupon still in hand, were being sent home empty-bellied but full of anger.

In New York, the East 42nd Street branch was shut down when an angry crowd, waving slips of paper and yelling abuse at the manager, refused to leave until they had been fed. Company spokesperson Laurie Schalow denied there was a physical confrontation. “Some customers were upset because they couldn’t get their chicken, but there was no riot,” she said. In Greensboro, North Carolina, police were called to restore order and lock the doors.

By Friday, KFC had been forced to make a humiliating statement abandoning the promotion after just two days of its advertised two-week run, citing “overwhelming demand”. A video was released showing the company president, Roger Eaton, grinning desperately as he insisted the fiasco was proof that “America loves the great taste ”

On Broadway, across the street from Macy’s department store, employee of the month Rita, a KFC server, was dealing with a queue of disappointed clients. “We are taking a rain check,” she shouted, gesturing at a picture of Colonel Sanders on the wall. “The people who run the company, down to his brother that’s still living, decided we have to take a rain check. You will get your free chicken. But not today.”

To add to the mayhem, folk were flouting the “one coupon per person” and photocopying the vouchers wholesale.

“We’re about to go out of business because of people’s dishonesty,” Rita told the Sunday Herald. “They were getting Xerox copies, going in to work and saying let’s all eat free’.” The lack of a barcode or serial number on the coupon was a fundamental design flaw.

Janelle Henderson admitted that it was his fifth trip to the restaurant in two days. “But so what? I heard it’s free for two weeks. This is bulls**t,” he said. Rita smiled wearily: “Thank you, sir. Thank you for being understanding.”

The fast-food chain has spent huge amounts of time and money over the years persuading consumers to forget the F word – that’s fried, by the way. Kentucky Grilled Chicken is hardly health food, but it does significantly cut back on the 1000 calories in a regular meal and is therefore less likely to contribute to a furry-veined coronary.

Oprah could just about justify her blatant product placement as an exercise in promoting better eating. Her record of campaigning against factory farming is less easy to explain away. Last year, she won a Person Of The Year award from People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals, after exposing the horrific life and death of battery chickens on her television show. Needless to say, KFC’s birds are not happy hens raised in the Disney barnyard.

Two-thirds of Americans are overweight. One-third are obese. And a lot of them have looked to Oprah for a way out of fattydom.

Rita’s announcement that the coupons were no longer valid did nothing to clear the Broadway branch, which was packed with paying customers.

Taneka Jones shrugged. “In New York City, if it says it’s free, it always costs you something,” she said.

And anyway, if KFC did run out she could always go to Kennedy Fried Chicken, or Church’s Chicken or even Obama Fried Chicken instead.

Oprah Winfrey’s fault. If the TV Queen of Empathy hadn’t opened her mouth, then Kentucky Fried Chicken wouldn’t have run out of it’s key ingredient: chicken.

Hank Aaron overrated? Who ever believes this doesn’t know baseball

Posted in baseball, baseball cards, Books, Family, Fun, Michael Burks, News, Sports, Uncategorized, World News with tags , , , on May 7, 2009 by Michael Burks

I wrote an article about a poster who claimed I knew nothing about baseball. You can read my debate on Sandy Koufax being overrated. Allan Rosteing also made the remark “Aaron never hit over 44 homerunsin a season.” Okay, and?

Aaron is easily one of the top 5 players of all time. Actually, I’d rate him fourth all time behind Ruth, Walter Johnson and Willie Mays. It is true that Aaron was not flashy like Ruth nor possessed the power of Ruth. Yes, Aaron’s career high in home runs was 44. Along with Ty Cobb and Pete Rose, Aaron was one of  baseball’s most consistent hitters.

Aaron played from 1954 until 1976. He made 25 All-Stars (some years there were two all-star games during his playing time). Aaron holds the MLB records of RBI’s, extra base hits and total bases. He is 2nd in home runs behind cheater Barry Bonds, 3rd in hits, and tied for 4th in runs. Aaron is one of only four players with at least 150 hits in 17 straight seasons. He also hit 24 or more home runs from 1955-1973. Most people also forget the fact Aaron won three Gold Gloves for his great and underrated defense.

Besides this Allan Rosteing dude, nobody else besides racist people seem to think Aaron is overrated. Sporting News rated Aaron 5th all time on their list of players, scholar Molefi Kete Asante ranks Aaron as the greatest black player in MLB history and SABR ranks Aaron 4th like me, Dugout Central ranks Aaron 7th all time,  andAaron also made the All-Century team which proved beyond a doubt, he clearly belongs in the top ten MLB players of all time.

Aaron is a living legend within the baseball realm. He was not only good in his prime, but was still a star at age 40. Most players like Johnny Bench and Sandy Koufax were done in their early 30’s. If you think Aaron is overrated, you truly don’t understand the game of baseball.

Easy debate to win – Sandy Koufax is not one of the top five pitchers of all time

Posted in baseball, Family, Fun, History, Hobbies, Life, Michael Burks, News, Sports, USA News with tags , , , on April 30, 2009 by Michael Burks

Some dude named Allan Rosteing left a comment claiming I know nothing about baseball. He was upset that Sandy Koufax was left out of my all-time top pitchers. People who rate him in the top five are the ones who truly know nothing about baseball.

To prove Koufax is not in the top five off all time is well, easy. He was done by age 30. He only won 165 games. He is nowhere near the top in wins, career strikeouts or even ERA. How can we call him “one of the greatest”? The fact is, we can’t.

His first year was 1955. He was 2 and 2 with an ERA of 3.02. Okay, not note worthy at all. In 1956 he was 2 and 4 with an ERA of 4.91; a very bad year to say the least. In 1957 he was 5 and 4 and had an ERA of 3.88, also a joke. In 1958 he was 11 and 11 (at least he won ten games lol) and had another bad ERA of 4.48. In 1959 he was 8 and 6 with an ERA of 4.05, also bad. In 1960 he was 8 and 13 with an ERA of 3.91, another bad year. In 1961 he was 18 and 13 with an  ERA of 3.52; okay, not too bad of a year there. In 1962 he finally pitched good going 14 and 7 and led the NL with an ERA of 2.54. From 1963 through 1966, Koufax was the best pitcher in the Majors.

But again, how can we call him one of the best ever? He pitched 12 seasons and had a losing record twice. He had an ERA over 4.00 three times. He won less than 10 games in a season five times, almost half of his career. He had 6 good seasons in 12 years, meaning he was okay or terrible the other half. How can we truly call that greatness?

Compare him to Greg Maddux. Maddux won nearly 200 games more than Koufax. He also won 18 Gold Gloves for his defense. Maddux also won at least 15 games in a season 17 straight seasons. He only won less than 10 games three times in his 23 year career; two being his first two seasons in the majors and his last. Koufax did that 5 times in only 12 seasons.

I could sit here all day and show pitchers who had longer and much better careers than Koufax. Should Koufax be in the Hall? Of course. But he is still not near the top five of all time.

Even Hall of Fame voters agree. Koufax only got 86% of the vote when elected. The all time greats like Seaver, had over 98%. I will bet money that Maddux hall of fame votes will be at least 5% higher than Koufax’s.

American Idol in the News – who cares lol

I don’t like this show. It’s fake. It sucks. It’s one of like 25 reality shows on tv that should be banned and taken off the air.
